Witnessing the Milky Way on an evening with clear skies and a new moon at a certified International Dark Sky park like Joshua Tree is an incredible experience. It is amazing how many stars you can see with the right conditions and minimal light pollution.

It took a while to find this gem of a spot in the park but when I saw this lone Joshua Tree, I thought it would make a great image if I were to capture the Milky Way core directly above it. It looks as though the tree is trying to reach up and touch the stars or there is a perception of phototropism. Just above the horizon, you can see the phenomenon known as airglow.
